Adolescent Psychiatry

As a General psychiatrist with experience in Adolescent Psychiatry,  I have come to recognize that many mental illnesses often begin at adolescence.  It is not uncommon for some of the serious mental illnesses including depression, addiction, mood disorder, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, schizophrenia to begin in the adolescent years.   Onset of mental illness at such an age can have disruptive effect on their development and can have negative impact on their functioning including academic performance.   In addition many of the mental illness can have serious and fatal outcome.  In the state of Oregon, Suicide is the second leading cause of death in those aged 10-24 years. 

 

Early intervention not only prevents the dangerous impact of mental illness on brain development but also improves the chances of functional recovery.

In my practice I will be offering Adolescent psychiatric services for those aged 12 years and above.

 

 

Following services will be offered^*:

· Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation and treatment planning.

· Medication co-management with your outpatient psychotherapists and Pediatricians.

· Psychotherapy and family psychotherapy.

· School consultation and school visits.

· Home visits.
